NIE has teamed up Vivacity, Eastern Angles, Metal and Peterborough City Council and Arts Council England to support the cultural development of the City.

In October 2010, NIE created Tales from the Middle of Town – a brand new site-specific family theatre show based on stories written by the children of Peterborough. The show transformed a disused shop in the heart of the city and played to sell-out audiences. Click here to find out more about this project.

NIE has lots of future plans for its work in Peterborough. We are engaging with Vivacity, Eastern Angles, metal and Creative Peterborough, delivering workshops throughout the city, working in conjunction with Peterborough Regional College and touring our existing shows to the Key Theatre, based in the city centre.

In February 2013 we took our family show Hansel and Gretel to the main space at The Key Theatre performing to sell-out audiences.

In May we will be returning to The Key Theatre with our new show North North North, a story inspired by the true tale of three Swedish adventurers who, in 1897, set out for the North Pole in a hot air balloon. Using a delightful mix of Victorian lecture, projection, animation and physical theatre, we invite you to join us on an exhilarating journey full of hope and daring, of frostbite and patriotic songs, of seal meat and sharing a sleeping bag. A dream and a nightmare of the great white north.

NIE have recently been taking workshops to schools around Peterborough as part of our work on a new show called I will be EVERYTHING. The project asks kids to imagine, write and draw a future where they are in charge (and responsible) for everything. The project will reach about 2000 children from across the city as participants, co-creators and spectators. The show will be performed in schools around Peterborough in Spring 2014.
