My Long Journey Home

Is the first part of the European Narratives Trilogy which also includes Past Half Remembered and The End of Everything Ever. These shows still tour, often as part of a Trilogy event in festivals or special events.

Made in the summer of 2001 it was NIE's first performance project.

The show received its premiere at the MTM Festival in Mostar, Bosnia in August of 2001.

Based on the true story of Andras Tomas, a Hungarian boy who was press ganged by the Wermacht in 1942, taken to fight on the Eastern Front an then lost in Russia for 53 years. Andras returned home to a hero's welcome in 1999.

Using live music on accordion and violin, clowning and comedy, singing and tragedy, one small puppet and a simple set, the show conjures a vast and impossible world and a cacophony of languages.

My Long Journey Home won the jury prize at the MTM Festival in Mostar in 2001, the Grad Prix at the TiBA Festival in Belgrade in 2004, it was nominated for the Stage Awards 'Best Ensemble Performance' at the Edinburgh Festival in 2004.

The show has played in 15 countries and had over 300 reprises.

My Long Journey Home received its final solo performance at the Kaposvar Festival in Hungary in May 2006.
